Splitwise Alternative

The Splitwise alternative with no daily cap

Free bill splitting with no ads, no daily limits and no paywalled features, plus one thing no other splitting app can do with your UPI payments.

Most people don't go looking for a Splitwise alternative because they woke up wanting a new app. They go looking because they tried to add the fourth expense of the day and got told to wait until tomorrow or pay up.

If that is why you are here, this page is for you. Splitify does the same job Splitwise does, it does a few things Splitwise doesn't, and the splitting side of it is free. Not free-with-a-catch. There is no daily cap on expenses, no ads sitting between you and your balances, and no feature behind a padlock icon.

Why people leave

Splitwise was great for a long time. It still works. What changed is the free tier.

Free users now run into a cap on how many expenses they can add in a day, plus ads that appear between ordinary actions like adding an expense or opening a group. If you got back from a Goa trip with eleven receipts to log, you will hit that wall on the same evening you are trying to sort everything out. The workaround the app offers you is a subscription.

None of this is outrageous on its own. A company has to make money somewhere. But a lot of people signed up for a bill splitter because bill splitting is a small chore, and paying a monthly subscription for a small chore feels wrong to them. So they start searching.

We built an import tool early on, because almost nobody wants to retype two years of rent, bills and grocery runs with their flatmates just to try something new. You shouldn't have to.

Splitwise adjusts its free tier from time to time, so check their current terms before you decide. This table reflects what free users were reporting through the first half of 2026.

Free means free

There is one row in that table people are right to be suspicious of. Every app in this category calls itself free, and most of them are working out how to charge you later. So here is what the word means here, and why it is not going to change.

We give away the splitting side completely, including the features Splitwise charges for. You can use Splitify for five years, split rent every month with three flatmates, and never see a payment screen.

We make our money on the other half of the app, the personal finance side, where Splitify sorts out your own spending. That has a 7 day free trial and then becomes Splitify Pro. Plenty of people never touch it, and that is genuinely fine by us.

The short version

Group splitting: free forever, every feature, no ads, no caps.
Personal finance tracking: free trial, then paid.

Scan, don't type

Splitting a dinner bill item by item is the single most annoying part of any splitting app. Six people, fourteen dishes, two of you didn't drink, one showed up for dessert only. Typing that in takes longer than the argument you were trying to avoid.

Point your camera at the receipt. Splitify pulls out each line item and its price, you tap the faces next to each dish, and it works out the totals including tax and service charge in proportion. It handles a printed restaurant bill, a supermarket receipt, and a screenshot of an order confirmation from a delivery app.

This is free in Splitify. It sits behind the subscription in most other apps.

The part nobody else does

Here is where Splitify stops being a Splitwise clone.

Think about your bank statement for last month. A good chunk of what is on it is not a shop or a restaurant. It is people. Money to your flatmate, money from your cousin, ₹840 to someone whose UPI handle you barely recognise. If you have ever tried to use a money tracking app in India, you know what it does with these. It calls the outgoing ones "Miscellaneous" and it books the incoming ones as income, which is nonsense, because that ₹840 landing in your account was your own money coming back.

Splitify already knows what those payments are, because it is also the app you split with. When your flatmate sends you ₹6,200, we don't see a mystery credit. We see a settlement against the electricity bill and the two grocery runs we already have on record.

The same logic fixes the bigger distortion. You pay ₹36,000 of rent from your account and split it three ways. You did not spend ₹36,000 on rent. You spent ₹12,000 and fronted ₹24,000 for two other people. Every other tracker in the country books the full ₹36,000 against you and quietly ruins your monthly numbers. We book ₹12,000, because we can see the split behind it.

To be clear about what costs what: this part lives on the paid side. It only starts working once you turn on personal finance tracking and connect your bank alerts, which is Splitify Pro after a 7 day trial. Splitting itself stays free whether or not you ever go near it. What is worth knowing is that no other app can do this at any price, because it needs your splits and your bank transactions sitting in the same place. More on that in our guide to expense tracker apps in India.

Moving your data

You do not have to start from zero, and you do not have to settle up everything first.

  1. Install Splitify on iOS or Android and sign in with your phone number.
  2. Export your group from Splitwise and hand the file to Splitify, either straight from the share sheet or by picking the file in the import screen. Your expenses, members and balances come across with it.
  3. Map everyone to a contact, then share the group invite link. Splitify offers you the link right after the import finishes. Drop it in the group chat, and as each person joins, the balances they see match what Splitwise was showing them.

Most people run both apps for a couple of weeks and then quietly stop opening the old one. There is a longer walkthrough with the export options in how to import your Splitwise data.

When to stay put

We would rather tell you this than have you download the app and get annoyed.

For everyone else, especially anyone splitting rent and groceries every month in an Indian city, the maths is straightforward. Same job, no cap, no ads, no subscription.

Switch in about two minutes

Bring your Splitwise groups, history and balances across in about three minutes.

Common questions

Is Splitify really free, or is there a catch later?

The splitting side is free and stays free. Unlimited expenses, unlimited groups, receipt scanning, item-wise splits, currency conversion, no ads. The paid tier is a separate thing: it is the personal finance side, where the app reads your bank alerts and sorts out your own spending and budgets. You can ignore it entirely and nothing about splitting stops working.

Can I import my Splitwise groups and balances?

Yes. Splitwise lets you export a group as a spreadsheet, and Splitify reads that file directly, bringing the group's members, expense history and balances across. It takes about three minutes per group and you don't need to settle up first.

Do the other people in my group need to install Splitify?

For them to see and edit the group, yes. You can add someone by phone number and start tracking against them before they join, and they will see the whole history once they sign up. Nobody has to pay anything to be in a group with you.

Does Splitify have a daily limit on adding expenses?

No. Add three expenses or thirty in a day, no cap and no cooldown timer between entries.

Is my data safe if I connect a bank account?

Bank connections are optional and separate from splitting. Splitify never stores your bank username or password, connections are read only so nothing can move money, and everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. You can disconnect at any point. Details are in our privacy policy.

Does it work in India with UPI?

Yes, and it is built around it. Amounts are in rupees, and the app understands that a payment to a person is often a settlement rather than a purchase. See the UPI expense tracker guide.

What happens to my groups if I stop paying for Pro?

Nothing. Groups, expenses, balances and settlements are on the free side of the app. Ending a Pro subscription only turns off the personal finance features.
