A Quick Overview
Splitify is a shared ledger for you and your friends. Expenses you add are not public. Only the friends you include on an expense can view it. If an expense is part of a group, all group members can view it. You are in control of who you share with. Any user on a shared expense or in a group has the ability to edit or delete the expenses shared with them. You can also track personal expenses and, optionally, link bank accounts to import transactions and investment holdings. Splitify offers an AI-powered chat assistant that can analyze your financial data and respond to your queries — your data is only sent to AI providers when you use this feature, and AI-generated responses are not financial advice.
1. Information We Collect
To provide and improve our Service, we collect the following types of information:
- Registration Information: When you create an account, we ask for your name, email address, and phone number. We need this to create your account, allow friends to find you, and secure your account.
- User-Generated Content: We store the information you provide, such as group names, expense descriptions, amounts, comments, and any images you upload (e.g., receipts).
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, such as the features you use, the actions you take, and the time and duration of your activities. This helps us improve the app.
- Device Information: We may collect information about your device, such as your IP address, operating system, and unique device identifiers. This helps us with security, support, and regulatory compliance.
- Contact Book Data: With your explicit permission, our app may access your device's contact book to help you easily find and invite friends. We only collect information for contacts you specifically interact with to send invitations or add to groups.
- Linked Bank Account Transactions (optional): With your explicit consent, we collect bank account and transaction data from your financial institution via Plaid Inc. (e.g., account information and transaction amount, description, merchant, and date) to import and help categorize your spending. We do not receive or store your bank login credentials.
- Linked Communications (optional): With your explicit permission, we ingest the content and limited metadata (e.g., sender, subject, timestamp) of bank alert SMS messages and emails you choose to link, solely to detect and extract transaction details and help you track expenses. This content may be stored to support features such as auto-categorization and audit history.
- Investment Data (optional): If you link a financial account that holds investment assets via Plaid Inc., we collect investment holdings, securities information, and investment transaction data to display within the Service and to power AI-assisted insights. This data is subject to the same protections as other financial data described herein.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for several purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and secure the Service.
- To allow your friends to find you and share expenses with you.
- To notify you about activity on your account or changes to our Service.
- To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
- To analyze usage patterns to improve features and personalization.
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, security, or technical issues.
- To power AI-assisted features, including the AI chat assistant, which may process your expense, transaction, and investment data to generate insights and respond to your queries.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We only share your information in the following circumstances:
- With other Splitify Users: We share your expense information and basic profile details (name, avatar, phone number) with the users you explicitly share with (e.g., in a group or on an expense). Users can add you as a friend by phone number without your explicit approval; doing so allows them to view your name and avatar.
- With Service Providers: We may share information with third-party companies that help us operate, provide, and improve our services. This includes cloud hosting, data analytics, and AI service providers (e.g., Google Gemini or OpenAI). Your data, such as expense details, receipt images, linked SMS/email bank alerts, and investment holdings and transactions, may be sent to these providers to power features like receipt scanning, transaction parsing, and AI-powered chat insights. We also use Plaid Inc. ("Plaid") to gather your data from financial institutions. By using our service, you grant us and Plaid the right, power, and authority to act on your behalf to access and transmit your personal and financial information from your relevant financial institution. You agree to your personal and financial information being transferred, stored, and processed by Plaid in accordance with the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. These providers are contractually obligated to handle your data securely.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to a valid legal process, or to protect the safety and rights of our users or the public.
- Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will notify you of any such change in control.
4. Your Choices and Control
You have control over your information:
- Account Deletion: To request account deletion, please email us at splitify.queries@gmail.com. Your account and personal data will be permanently deleted within 60 days. When your account is deleted, your personal information is removed from our active databases. However, information related to expenses you shared with others may remain visible to them as part of their records (similar to how deleting an email account does not un-send emails).
5. Data Security
The security of your data is important to us. We use technical and administrative measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
